H. H. Mann

Principal
1907 - 1918
“The first Principal of the Agricultural College, Poona, Dr. H. H. Mann D. SC., was also the Professor of Agricultural Chemistry and the Agricultural Chemist to Government of Bombay. A sound tradition and solid foundation for the College were laid during his time.”
By HAROLD H. MANN
It is wonderful to me to think that the Poona College of Agriculture has reached its Golden Jubilee. When I arrived in Poona in the latter part of 1907 to take my place as the first Principal of the College very few people would have believed that it would have the brilliant career which it has had, and that in 1957 it would have established itself as one of the great agricultural institutions of the world.

W. Burns

Principal
1922 - 1933
“Dr. W. Burns was the Principal for as long a period as Dr. Mann. He was also the Professor of Botany and the Economic Botanist to Government of Bombay for a longer period. He organized the breeding of crop plants and trained a number of plant breeders.”
By W. BURNS
When, in October 1908, I arrived at the bungalow of Dr. H. H. Mann, then Principal of the newly-formed College of Agriculture, Poona, he was away on a sea-trip to convalesce after an attack of enteric. When he returned, he asked me to share his house and I stayed with him till 1912.
